January Monthly Bullet Journal Spread

Happy New Year! For most of us, a new year means a new journal and/or planner. January is a great time to review the previous year and start setting goals and intentions for the year ahead.

Whether you’re brand new to bullet journaling or just looking for some new ideas and inspiration, here are some January monthly bullet journal spreads to get you started.

I always start my monthly spreads off with some sort of grid layout of the actual days of the month, so I can mark any important dates and holidays right off the bat. Then fill in a pretty January header, some blocks for lists, goals, big projects, and then fill in the leftover white space with some colorful, winter-themed doodles or designs.

What To Track In Your January Bullet Journal:

The beauty of bullet journaling is you can make it as simple and minimalist or as detailed and fancy as you want! For some of us, just outlining the days of the month with a heading and splash of color is enough.

If you’re looking for some ideas on what else to add to your monthly spread page(s), here are some things you could add in:

  • Goals for the month
  • To-do for the month
  • To-manifest (similar to a to-do but a little more woo and much more powerful)
  • Cleaning plan for the month
  • Fitness goals or tracking
  • Sleep goals or tracking
  • Self-care tracking
  • Water intake tracking
  • Saving challenges
  • Income and spending goals or tracking
  • Set date nights or list ideas
  • People to connect with this month
  • Appointments to make
  • If you own a business, list out products/content to create or upcoming launches

Holidays Happening In January

  • Dry January – all month
  • January 1, New Years Day
  • National Vision Board Day – second Saturday in January
  • January 14, National Dress Up Your Pet Day
  • Martin Luther King Jr Day – third Monday in January
  • Sometimes Lunar New Year happens in January

What To Doodle In Your January Bullet Journal Spread

Once you have your calendar and any list-type boxes laid out, it’s time to add in some color, doodles and creative flare to spice up your white space on your monthly spread pages. In addition to some doodles, I also like to squeeze in an inspiring quote each month, and sometimes each week!

I usually think of a theme or feeling for the month and then try to use colors and designs to show it off. For a Colorado January – I’m starting the year off strong with a blue, white, cold, winter vibe with snowy mountain peaks and coniferous trees.

Your theme could be more bright, glittery, warm, yellow, gold vibe with string lights and cozy candles. Or it doesn’t have to be winter-specific at all. You could choose a January theme that simply has to do with something you love – like different cats with yarn doodled around the page; or coffee beans, a mug and swirling steam; or cupcakes; or the flags of different countries you want to visit this year. Truly the ideas are endless.
